Laura started her nursing career in 1981 in her small hometown
of Middleport, New York. There she juggled two small
children while working for the local physician and the
community hospital. This early experience kindled a passion
and love for medicine. Now with more than 20 years of
experience she begins a new journey at the Center for
Integrative Medicine.
Laura views medicine as an art, guided not only by science
but by four principles. The first principle is mastery, more
than just wisdom, it is recognizing that sickness is not
always as obvious as it seems and that the thoughtful
practitioner must work through the maze to find the true
answers. The second is individuality, illness is different
for each person. An observant practitioner recognizes that
attention to the individual journey of each patient can make
a difference in the healing process. There is no "one size
fits all" treatment plan. Thirdly, humanity. Her decisions
are based on how she would want to be treated. Lastly,
morality, the patient provider relationship is a partnership
built on truth and integrity. Optimal care requires the
sharing of one's life and private thoughts with a provider
who cherishes and respects that privileged trust. She
professes to not know all the answers, realizing that the
mastery of health care evolves in the daily practicing of
medicine .
After moving to Chattanooga in 1991 Laura returned to school
in 2005. Now a graduate of the Nurse Practitioner program at
Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, she brings to
her new career over twenty years of patient care experience.
Her clinical background includes family medicine, critical
care, neonatal intensive care, cardiology and cardiothoracic
surgery.
