Weight Loss-
Losing the weight is really not the issue, as anyone can
tell you who has dieted in the past. Most diets are
successful at helping you lose weight, but not at helping
you keep it off. Focus is on the lifestyle changes that can
help you keep the weight off, and the behaviors practiced by
those who have successfully maintained their weight loss.
High
Cholesterol/Triglycerides- If you are concerned
about taking statin drugs or other medications to control
your blood lipids, or if you just want to try and reduce the
number or dosage of those medications, dietary changes can
dramatically impact your blood lipid levels. Focus is
placed on the foods to enjoy, the foods to avoid, and the
lifestyle changes that will reduce your body’s production of
cholesterol and triglycerides.
Diabetes/Metabolic
Syndrome- Evidence suggests that individuals with
blood sugar levels greater than 100 mg/dl are at a much
greater risk of becoming diabetic. Lifestyle interventions
including diet and exercise have been shown to slow and even
reverse the progression to diabetes, and can reduce or
eliminate the need for some diabetic medications in
individuals who need to take them. Focus is on learning the
role of carbohydrates on blood sugar, proper eating habits,
and choosing foods that have a low or modest impact on blood
sugar and insulin levels.
Food Allergies/Digestive
Problems- It is estimated that sensitivity to
gluten may affect as many as 1 in every 133 Americans. Many
other foods and additives may also contribute to sensitivity
or intolerance. In addition, IBS, Crohn’s, and other
gastrointestinal conditions may benefit from dietary
changes. Focus is on identifying and eliminating foods or
substances that contribute to or amplify these conditions,
and shifting to a healthy whole food based diet to reduce or
eliminate the symptoms of these conditions that impact your
daily activities.
Eating for Optimum Health- Maximize your
potential. Focus on foods that have the most nutritional
benefit to look and feel your best. Open your mind, expand
your palate and take an active role in reducing your risk of
heart disease, diabetes, and many forms of cancer and
thereby increasing longevity. Learn cooking methods and try
new and delicious recipes.
